As the company boasts, this is on the list as one of the finest automated filtered brewers you can find. And they’re not wrong. The high price may make it prohibitive for some, but most Moccamaster owners believe that it is worth every penny.
With a few different model options related to carafe material as well as machine color, this high-end machine offers something for almost anyone’s preference.
Based in the Netherlands, the Technivorm Moccamaster company works to address environmental problems by using only recyclable or biodegradable materials in the handmade manufacturing process, producing products that are high quality and long-lasting.

Pros
Precise Pulsated Drip Brewing Method: The pulsations of the water entering the filter basket allow for an even extraction process, providing a great-tasting cup of coffee.
Copper Element and Heavy Duty Boiler: Both of these features allow the water to reach (and remain at) the perfect temperature for brewing.
Easy to Use and Quick Brewing: Quite simple to use without a lot of digital or electronic parts that may break. Only one switch for on and off. Brews a pot of coffee in about 4-6 minutes.
Premium Materials: Constructed of high-quality materials with environmentally friendly manufacturing practices, this unit should last for years to come. The 5-year warranty is an indication of what the manufacturer expects. The unit is mostly metal, but any plastics used are BPA free.
Quiet Brew Cycle: With none of the loud bubbling or popping that you hear coming from other machines, this unit offers quiet brewing in a short amount of time.
Carafe Choice: depending on the model chosen, the Moccamaster has either a glass carafe with a hot plate that heats for 100 minutes (and then automatically turns off) or a thermal stainless steel carafe.
Many Color Options: Available in Turquoise, Red Metallic, Fresh Green, Yellow Pepper, White Metallic, Royal Blue, Pink, Grape, Orange, and Stone Gray for the KBG 741 model.
Also, Black options include Matte Black, Black Metallic, and Piano Black.
Cons
The biggest con of this brand is that it is cost-prohibitive. And the upfront cost is indeed quite high. However, if you look at the long-lasting value offered over the years, then the cost is more balanced out.
And most people who own a Technivorm Moccamaster find that it’s worth the money they paid.
Though this probably won’t matter to you if you want a great tasting, fresh cup of coffee, the Moccamaster does not have a programmable timing feature.
Few options are available to dial in the amount of coffee you wish to brew. You can only choose between a half carafe and a full carafe. Nothing more, less, or in-between.
Comparisons to Similar Products
On the higher end of the quality scale, the Moccamaster Technivorm has many features that compare to those of the Behmor Brazen or the Bonavita 8 Cup BV1900TS.
Although this one has fewer digital controls that could potentially break, this means you don’t have quite as much control and choice (of brewing temperature, pre-infusion, timing, etc.) when brewing.
Plus, this one runs about $100-$125 higher in price than the Behmor Brazen. At the same time, the Moccamaster is likely to last so long that it will become a precious member of your family, so you may find it worth the extra cost.
Techniques, Tips, and Tricks
The pre-infuse “bloom” cycle can be started by pushing the brew-pause lever down for about 30 seconds before brewing. This allows any CO2 to be released from the grounds. After the 30 seconds are up, be sure to move the lever back up to where it belongs.
Six Different Models with Various Options: Which Should You Buy?
The Technivorm Moccamaster is available in six different configurations in the 10 cup/1.2 liter size.
The choice of carafes includes a double-wall insulated thermal stainless option on certain models or other variants that include glass carafes with heating elements to keep the liquid warm.
Some models are available in brushed metal, some are offered in “polished silver,” and still others may have both options. One variant is also offered in a slew of different colors.
Other differences are as minute as the addition of an auto-stop filter basket, which means that you can remove the carafe from the unit while it is brewing and the machine will pause (whereas in other models, the brewing process can be paused manually).
Also worth noting, if you’re wondering about the design differences between the various models, the K series has the traditional rectangular housing and the C series offers the round housing.
Which one is best? Well, that depends on your needs, but I prefer insulated thermal carafes. They do a fine job of keeping the coffee hot for a long while without scorching the brew the way a glass and heating element combination is prone to do.
I also find the tight-fitting lids of the stainless model keep the brew fresher for a much longer period as well.
And Yes, There are Larger Sizes
Do you need something a little larger for an office setting, or for entertaining several guests?
15-cup sizes are also available in both a double-walled insulated thermal carafe model as well as and one that features a glass carafe.
The Technivorm Moccamaster is a high end, at-home brewing system for those who want a straightforward, excellent cup of coffee every time. Made with high-quality materials in an environmentally friendly way, the machine is also fully recyclable should the day come when you finally put it to rest.
If you’re looking to invest in a simple, easy to use the machine that will brew you a tasty cup of coffee for years to come, the Technivorm Moccamaster may just be the one.
